Have you tried running scandisk or a defragger? I had the same problem with an anti-virus program and at one point it sold me a had a problem with my hard drive. I use Nortons and it told me to use NDD and speed disk to fix the problem! I never did though and I really need to. I upgraded my antivirus to 2005 and haven't had a problem with it since. You night want to try that and if that don't work try installing your ad-ware program again.
