tasks in task manager

I need some help with my task manager, if seems to have alot on it, and i dont know what i need to run this pc fast as poss.. and what i dont need. I also want it done st that everytime i start the pc and close it, its faster. can anyone advise me how i would get into xp to stop stuff coming up.
