Unhappy home network problem

i've connected two computers, both win xp, with a crossed cable.
enables ICS ... on one of them, made them members in the same workgroup called office.
the most unusual thing is happening, when one of the computers is up and the other is restaring, they have a network connection, in the minute the restaring one gets into win xp they lose the connection ?!

anyone ?

i'm trying to use one of them as the ICS, and share between them printer files etc.

those anyone knows if modem can be shared as well ???

thanks,
Inna

i did, same problem.

i gave them,
first 192.168.0.1
255.255.255.0

second 192.168.0.10
255.255.255.0

yet, not working ...

hey, what about when the 192.168.0.10 tries to use the ICS ...

Are you sure you haven't got the Windows firewall turned on either of these connections as that will often explain problems liek this! Failing that how about spending £10 on a hub, you'll find life so much easier! The modem can be easily shared using Windows Internet connection sharing, asuming it is a standard 56k, if it is a cable or ADSL modem I would get a router if I were you around £40 with a built in firewall you'll protect yourself then. Worth noting as well a shared 56k modem connection will probably drive you to pulling your hair out!
