Lost defrag engine connection

Help!! I can't defrag my pc. It says I have lost the connection to the defrag engine.

Replace it off the XP CD.

I tried that. With the service pack 2 it says the version I currently have is newer that the disk version. Tried to uninstall service pack 2 and it wouldn't let me. I have spend literaly hours on the phone with Microsoft tech support all to no avail. All other hard drives defrag fine, all other programs work fine so I dont think it is the hard drive?

So you can defrag lets say D:\(hd2) but you cant C:\(hd1)... If so I will have to look into that.
Did you try to replace it in safemode? Try that if not.
Do you have system restore enabled? If so restore as far back as you can- the date befor you lost your scan engine.

I will try to gether more information for you. You could all ways back every thing up and use recovery and/or format:reinstall

True but that does not fix the fact that their is a broken link in the OS.
