Start menu problem...

Hello everyone, my name is Tim and I am new to these forums - a friend of mine suggested I check this place out for a solution to a little issue I have been having lately.

Basically, the icon for Microsoft Outlook has disappeared and I don't know how to restore it. This happened several months ago and I lived with it until I performed my regular system format. I do not use any alternate e-mail or internet browser programs, so as far as I know, it has never been changed via software.

I will include a screenshot of my start menu.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. It is not a drastic problem, but it is getting very annoying! I have tried to find a way to change the icon, but with no luck.

Thanks in advance,
Tim

Question

Hi Tim

I've read your post a few times and am puzzled as to what you are trying to ask. Could you please reword you question so we can understand your problem better. Also what operating system are you using?

Thanks

Sorry, my picture didn't seem to upload properly!

Here is the screenshot.

The problem is that the Microsoft Outlook icon has disappeared. It is more of a nuissance than anything, but I would like to figure out how to fix it. Like I said, it has happened in the past and I couldn't figure it out then either - I lived with it until I formatted the partition Windows is installed on.

I have tried TweakUI's "Icon Repair" option, but to no avail - didn't seem to do anything.

I hope this helps clarify my problem,
Tim

Delete the existing icon (shortcut)--> right click the start button--> click "properties"--> click "customize"--> under "Show on Start menu" place a check in the box for "E-mail"--> click "ok"--> click "Apply"--> click "Ok".

That should solve your problem.

Thanks for the replies!

Cache: I tried what you suggested, but the icon still looks the way it did in the screenshot.

Could the icon be corrupt? I can't find anywhere to edit the icon that is displayed -- if I change the default e-mail program to Outlook Express, Outlook Express' icon displays fine. But, if I change it back to MS Office Outlook, the same foreign icon reappears. Any ideas?

Thanks for your time,
Tim
