Windows XP Locks on bluescreen, can't start in safe mode... HELP!

Hi,

Help! I have Windows XP and its locking up on the blue screen that says Windows XP and has the logo. I want to try to do a system restore to fix this problem.

I tried to start the computer in safe mode, but it won't work. I get stuck on the same blue screen with the logo. I have tried the options to restore to last good configuration and to restore to command prompt. Nothing is working.

Does anyone have any ideas what to do next. I seen things about rebooting from a cd...if I do this will I be able to get in to try the system restore or will this make me do a reinstall of windows and force me to lose data.

Any help anyone can give would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!
Sharon

Note...I have a home network and I can still get to the harddrive of this computer when it's stuck on the blue screen, so I can get all of my files off if I need to but I'd obviously like to avoid that if possible....

Windows XP Home Edition (not sure edition since I can't boot to check)
HP Pavillion Notebook

Have a look here to do XP repair Install http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm you should lose no data but backup just in case. read carefully and follow instructions. To get safe mode you must press F8 repeatidley as soon as you boot, if it's not working, wait for Win to boot first screen then hit F8 as quickley as possible , you may miss it a few times but keep trying.

Send a message via Yahoo to maverick09
if u have a printer attached to ur laptop disconnect it or any other peripheral , disconnect the network

then restart and then try f8 while the system is booting up
this may solve ur problem, if ur able to get to the selection menu select safe mode and then if u r able to login to windows then perform a system restore
