Floppy drive not recognised

I've just installed XP pro upgrading from XP home edition. Now in the "My computer" window the A: floppy drive icon is shown (I've only one floppy drive) but when I click on the floppy icon (after some delay 3/4 seconds) I get the message "Please insert a disk in drive A:."

Of course whether I have inserted a disk or not the situatiopn still persists.

I took the uninstall floppy control route and upon my next re-start the drive was recognised but upon following re-start the situation reverts to the same old problem.

I spent £5 pounds on a new floppy drive and still get the same situation.

I've called Siemens/Fujitsu hardware support (it's their hardware) and have proved that I do not have a hardware problem. On boot up I switched the BIOS to the floppy and it read a floppy boot disk without problem.

XP Home Edition worked fine! So, what is going on?

Kind regards to all Roger

you can always double check that it is connected properly by removing case cover, and pressing the plugins to insure its properly connected.

And if its a real serious issue with booting. Check the Jumpers on the drive
