Accessing "My Computer"

When I try to access my computer or browse, there is a long pause before anything appears..How can I fix this?

Try all standard things first:

Update virus info and do FULL SCAN.

Download and install anti-spyware programs:
Adaware, Spybot Search and Destroy, CW Shredder, Microsoft's BETA.

All are free and reliable.

After that - do a good Disc cleanup. Delete everything you don't need. Empty temporary Interent files, delete old emails, empty ALL the DELETED ITEMS folders. Empty the Recycling Bin.

Do a good DEFRAG. Then another.

This may not apply to you- if you have the hp 7310 all in one printer there is a problem when the printer is connected directly to the computer rather than to a network. They clain connecting it to a network will resolve the problem. My wife and I have been dealing with this for 4 weeks now. It causes the computer to have a great deal of trouble locating the C drive. So far hp has not been able to resolve the problem and we are returning our printer.
