Deleted User Account By Mistake

I deleted a non-adminstrator User Account by mistake. Files that I needed from that user account....of course, not backed up...are now gone.

I haven't written any other data to the disk since then. Is there any way to recover the data.

I noticed a System Restore feature in the Windows XP Help & Support but I have never used this. If I set it back to yesterday's date would this restore the system to before when I deleted the User Account ????

I don't want to play around too much with the computer in case I make any potential data recovery process worse.

You will have to see if System Restore is turned on, if it is you will have to choose a restore point (these are shown as darker colours in the calender ) there may not be one for yesterday. just choose the nearest date and restore. You will not cause any harm.

Microsoft Windows Xp, Version 2002.
i done the same thiing by accident!
and ive lost, literally, everything -
Firstly, i was trying to install PSP X on my computer but it wouldnt work, i rang corel support staff up &they told me that my account was corrupt and that i needed to create a new user account.
i did as they told me to, BUT couldnt do anything to tthe old account, i couldnt DELETE nor press COPY TO.
i accessed it from other accounts but i still couldnt do anything to it, so i just left it &move the folders myself.
After a while things stopped working and there were missing links so i deleted the new account to start from scratch and attempt to transfer everything properly. I got up to the part of creating a new account and copying files from the old one, it said * the files had been saved * &a folder was created on the desktop with the name of the old account - but there was nothing in there! :| so.. i deleted the account, under the impression that everything was being saved, because that is what i selected, but it didnt save.. &everything has dissapeared. from my old account &the new &im in such a mess because my files were v.important but i havent backed up anything for such a long time.
I tried system restore - that didnt work, just confused things more. &i also tried utility software like undo-delete but i probably recovered two jpg files from that, and thats it. i really really need to fix this problem asap, i make music you see, and i cant carry on with my job without my music files, and they have all gone and im stuck. so please please could someone help me..

(Im running norton antivirus)
thanks in advance!

If you did not observe the prompt to save the
user files prior to deleting the User Account,
then those files have been permanently deleted
and are generally not recoverable.

However, you may wish to try a third-party
file recovery program, such as:

Wink Late suggestion

Well, it's late post by years, but still I wud like to let someone know who has the problem newly and been searching the solution. I had same problem recently, but I corrected it easily using Easy Recover software. I deleted the user profile folder permanently caz it was oversized than Recycle Bin. This software is very easy to use and i found that user folder from Lostfiles section of the result. Only parent folder was named different automatically, child folders were ok, and after restoring just copied to the right location and renamed as initial user account name.
