Desktop Shutdown Shortcut

I've been trying to install a quick shutdown shortcut on my desktop. The following link http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=316 gives guidance on how to achieve this but I can't get it to work. Any help most welcome.

Perhaps the problem could be that you have used the rong syntax for the -t switch.

example:

%windir%\System32\shutdown.exe -s -f -t 5
In this line the value "5" for the switch -t most likely wouldnt work.

%windir%\System32\shutdown.exe -s -f -t 05
In this line note the value "05", this should be fine. Any value set for the switch -t below 10 should be set with a zero first: 00, 01, 02, and so on.

Could this be the problem?

Thank you cache for you quick response. I've checked the syntax and it seems to be correct. The symptom of the failure is that on double clicking on the new shortcut, a very brief glimpse of a command line dialogue box flashes on then disappears. 'Nothing' actually happens.

download the .vbs file..execute..and you're done! no editing stuff required.
read first on the top of the page for the instructions/guides about .reg/.vbs files
dont worry it's safe(scan it before using if u have doubts)..i use it myself.

Thanks also to dos_attack_ph. Looks like a very interesting page. I've already bookmarked it and will browse it later (in Firefox of course). I don't visit this forum as much as I ought to and so I'm not up to speed with general trends on here. But if I might be permitted a minor digression, what's the general feeling about Firefox? For the record I think it's very good.

it is indeed an interesting page for tweakers and the likes. no tweaking softwares needed..just plain registry and vbs files to import. also good for solving xp problems.
about firefox..it rocks! and dont forget to update it as it is now being the second target due to its popularity after IE. latest released after 1.0 is firefox 1.0.1

happy tweaking!

I apologise if you are already aware of these. If you find the links useful it might be a good idea to get this post moved to a more appropriate place.
