Exclamation WIN XP Home Boot Problem

Hey, I've got a boot problem which probably isn't anything new to you guys here.

Anyway, I'm running a dual boot system with Windows XP Home on one partition, and Windows Server 2003 on the other partition.

Last night, I got tired and shut the computer down, without anything abnormal happening. The next morning, when I chose to boot into windows xp home, Nothing happened. You know how when you boot into XP, there is that little white bar that is across the bottom? That doesn't appear. It just sits there.

So, naturally I tried booting up with the config that most recently worked, and the same thing happened. So I booted up in safe mode to see where it was getting hung up.

The last line in safe mode was "Windows\System32\config\system"

Then I thought that the config file must be corrupted, so I booted with my windows XP home CD, and entered the repair counsle. Then I copied Windows\repair\system to windows\System32\config\ and rebooted, and nothing happened.

Now, I'm stuck. Although I can still use this computer (Thanks to Windows Server 2003) I really need to access Windows XP Home because of all of the applications I have installed.

And lastly, I did not install anything new that day. I have had the multiboot system for about 3 weeks, and I wasn't messing around in the system files.

Please help me!

-Griff

i'm not that familiar with xp home cause i have a pro but you might want to try this:

1. boot to your xp cd then go to recovery console by pressing "R" on the first screen.
2. login as administrator.
3. after logging in, type this -- chkdsk /p
4. after completion type this -- FIXBOOT
5. answer with YES by pressing Y if ask to write a new boot sector.
6. run -- chkdsk /p again
7. after completion type -- exit. then you should be able to boot xp normally again.

hope this helps!

Didn't work

I'll give it a shot. If it doesn't work, I'll be right back here.

Edit:

Didn't work. Open for more suggestions.

Is a clean install the only solution? I suppose I could back up all of my data if I had to, but all of this, for some random problem???

I guess if nobody can help me, I'll just back up some files and perform a repair installation in home XP.

Will there be any data loss? I read that I might lose the data in "Documents and Settings" so I'm going to back that up, but I don't want to lose anything of value.

Also, I realize that this is going to be a lot of work, and it would be nice if someone could save me the trouble, by helping me.

NOT RESOLVED
