Unhappy cable modem is on even when logged off

Could anyone tell me if I have something to worry about? I am running Xp pro with cable and ZoneAlarm. When I log off (not, turn off) my cable modem still shows activity.
If this is a problem, what can I do?

does your modem show activity when you are shut down. when i shut my machine down completely i can see activity on my modem. By this i mean a few L.E.D's flicking. I don't think its anything to worry about but please dont take my word for it!

Its not a problem. It's just the cable modem getting a signal from the cable..cable.

Unhappy What is the cable modem sending?

Ok. Thanks for that update. Something still puzzles me, though. The receiving part I understand, but what could the modem be sending when no program is supposed to have access or even be functioning while logged off?
When the computer itself is shut down that's when I finally have no modem sending activity, only receiving, as it should be.

you'll have a certain amount of talk with a cable modem even when you are not specifically using a program which is sending data.......especially if you have a firewall and virus-checker active, but if you are getting constant packet sending, then I would check your system out for spyware etc using Ad-aware or a similar program. Also try running msconfig and seeing what processess are set to run on boot-up - you might be surprised.

Hope this helps
