windows XP not displaying text

hi all,

weired question but on my dad's computer he updated windows XP home about a week ago, and no matter what application is installed after that data refuses to display any text, for example all the menu bars on the top of the page arent there, if i try to print then the only thing you can see is a printer and the outline of the print box and cancel, any ideas as to what is going on?

Do you mean you updated via Windows Update?

Use System Restore to restore to a point before you updated. (You can undo this if necessary.)

Or,

Go to "Control Panel -> Add or Remove Programs"

Click the box "Show Updates" and scroll down to the update (Windows Hotfix) in question (the date of installation is there), and click "Remove".
