Slow Internet Connection after XP SP1 Install

Hi there,

I seem to be able to establish an Internet connection (on a 56k dial-up modem), but for the first few minutes the connection is too slow to use.

All of a sudden, everything speeds up and works properly after a delay. I can't think what's causing this although it does seem to have happened since installing XP Service Pack 1.

I have used a program called XP AntiSpy to block any programs from accessing the Internet so as to ensure nothing is hogging the bandwidth when it first makes a connection. However, this has not resolved the issue. I've also run MSConfig to turn off all services at start-up but this doesn't help either.

I guess uninstalling SP1 could fix the problem but I want to do this as a last resort as it has some useful security updates and patches.

If anyone can solve this I'd be greatly impressed and appreciative!!
