XP Freezes after boot

hi

Hope somebody can help me. My computer freezes approx 5 minutes after booting up. I reboot maybe twice and it's all ok for the rest of the day. I have anti-virus and done a full scan, it found nothing, i have also run ad-aware, spybot etc, found a few things which were fixed but it still keeps happening. i haven't installed any new software or hardware which may have caused this to happen. Any help appreciated. Thanks

Just a small point did you turn off System Restore before running your scans, windows protects all restore points so your programes can't scan. Any problems lurk in there, as soon as you boot they are back.It may be a good idea to scan in safe mode.Take a look at this thread http://www.softwaretipsandtricks.com...ad.php?t=14845 it may help.

Hi
No it boots up fine, I can use it for about 5 mins then it freezes. I then reboot once or maybe twice if it happens again then the computer is fine. I tried what was suggested in the last post and it is still the same.

I have been working on a system that does the same thing, freezes a few times. I reinstalled the OS, XP, and updated it, not SP2 though, and it works fine for hours and multiple reboots. Then suddenly it freezes, sometimes within minutes of logging in and sometimes it's a half hour but no more. I thought it was bad copy of XP so I reinstalled it again it works fine hours and several reboots and then freezes. I also got the scanner from the hd manufacturer and the hd pasted all those tests. If anyone has any suggestions it would be much appreciated.
