Question Add printer driver failure!?!!

Hi all,

I have a problem with XP SP2 and a Panasonic K-XP7100 printer, everytime I try to install the printer, whether USB or parallel I get the error - "Add printer driver failure. Setup will terminate."

Have had the printer working fine with SP1, been searching the web for hours but can't find any other mentions of this problem.

I should mention I have Norton Firewall and Antivirus 2004 running, XP Firewall disabled.

Any help would be gratefully recieved!!!

Cheers,

Mo

Did you look for XP drivers from Panasonic, which should include any changes for SP2

I just spent hours trying to get Windows XP to load drivers for my USB connection scanner.
I had to remove the scanner software, unplug the scanner from the USB port, install the software, and when prompted, plug the scanner back in.

You might try the same with your printer.

Un-install, un-plug, install, and then plug back-in.

Don't understand why, but thats the way it worked.

I've seen a lot of malware in the past few months that target the spool service in XP and turn it off. Why anyone would target this, I don't know. That'll be the first thing you'll want to check though. Just go to: control panel/administrative tools/services and look for print spool. If it's off - turn it on. If it's on - turn it off and then back on. If that doesn't help do a full uninstall, make sure you get rid of those directories and don't forget to go into the printers folder hit: file/server properties/drivers and then remove any drivers relevant to your printer. Restart in selective start (make sure your anti-virsu is off) and try installing again.
