Disableing the CDROM

i have a PC and every night we get people in the factory installing games and putting viruses etc onto this pc which we need to keep as clean as possible due to its uses, i have looked at Group policy editor and poledit (i think they are one and the same) but no luck i had 3rd party software that stops the CDrom from working but it also stops the dongle working on the PC so our CNC machine fails to work aswell,
I need to disable the CDROM and prevent the background being changed,
If this can be donw please let me know,

Thanks in advance

Go to bios at startup. Disable it from there. Or open the case & unplug the cdrom.

case cannot be opened (it is locked to the desk and we cannot find the key) and i am reluctant to disable it from the bios due to the fact that we get regular update from our supplier who needs the CD rom to update the software, all i need to do is stop it for 1 user and the administrator account has full privelages

get to the device manager and disable the cd rom
you can enable as and when u reqiure

to get to the device manager

press the windows button and the pause break simutaneously and click on the hardware tab and then click on the device manager button , search in for an entry that says cdrom and right click and disable it

another way to get to the device manager is
start>control panel>performance and maintainence>system>hardware tab>device manager

try it and let me know
bye
best of luck

well what do you know it does work, thanks you, but it still means that i need to walk to the otherside of the factory to enable it when the guys come in to upgrade, if its too dificult to get some kind of policy to disable the drive for one particular users then dont wory about it,

thanks anyway
