Removing Partitions

I recently installed XP Pro on a new hard drive. Another hard drive has 3 partitions on it, previously used for Win98 & NT. These 3 partitions are named C, D and E. The new drive was assigned the letter H when I installed XP. If I remove C, D and E and create a single partition, will the drive letter H be changed and if so is there any way of finding out what hard-coded references to H exist so I can amend them?
