Windows Media Player Will Not Open

hi! i have a friend who is having this problem, win media player wont open up. tried running the media player from the root folder but it will still not do anything. we even uninstalled and installed back media player in windows components, still the same. actually, after reinstalling back the media player, there were no icons for the media player at the desktop but when we go accessories -> entertainment.. media player is there but has no icon. we havent done system restore because her previous problem might occur again that is not able to install her printer coz the rpc server is missing but that problem is resolved now. any suggestions what can we do next?

actually i have one thing in mind and that is to dl the media player 10 from the net and install it to her computer, will that solve the issue?
