More RAM or Video Card with Mem

I want to make an upgrade to my P4 2.8 GHz Win XP system. I have an integrated video card (no Mem) and I have 512MB of SDRAM. I would like to know if it is better to buy a new Video Card with it's own dedicated memory built into the card. Or keep the integrated card and get another 512MB of RAM for a total of 1GB of RAM.

I don’t do anything fancy with the machine other than I plan to do some photo editing and maybe some video editing in the future.

For this use, which would be better?

Thanks,

Joe

It's a well known fact that Photo Editing of large bitmaps and Video Editing are RAM intensive activities.

It may be helpful for Photo Editing to have access to higher resolutions that a new video card would offer, but I think (assuming from what you said, that spectacular looking 3D games aren't a major factor), that the extra ram would be of greater advantage to you and the kinds of programs you wish to use.

Of course, in a perfect world, you'd get both...

Upgrading video card doesnt just help with resolutions and stuff, it also opens up a whole new world of gaming. Not to mention all of the different features and availabilities.

But still yes i must agree, Go with the ram it will benefit you far more than upgrading a video card

Thanks All

Thanks for the response. I am not a PC game user at all, so it looks clear to me that the RAM upgrade is the better choice of the 2 for my situation.

Thanks again, I appreciate your advice.
