Question Windows XP Freezes on Startup (boot)

when i turn on the computer it boots and when the logo of Windows XP appears with the black background as usual and the progress bar scrolls,, well On that stage it stops completely so i cant even get into the welcome screen.
Also when i turn it off and on again i am asked this "we are sorry for inconvenicnce..... and gives my 5 options --- safe mode, safe mode networking, last good config, normal startup, and something else.
ONLY SAFE MODE WORKS

I also have another question. IS it possible to use the CD burner in SAFE MODE to save my files. If yes whats the trick because my computer keeps telling me that the CD is not blank(the problem is not with the CDs)
---------
i have tried the following
1- chkdsk /r in the recovery console
2- repaired windows files like 5 times. no good.

the result of 1st was this -- "The volume appears to contain one or more unrecoverable problems"
------------
CAN U TELL ME WHATS THE PROBLEM WITH THE COMPUTER!!
1) my hard drive?? (remember i can log onto safe mode-- at first i couldnt but after i repaired Windows using the WIN XP CD i can now go in to safe mode ALONE.
2)A system file - Dont know which file to blame --- any guess
3)Anything else ???
----------------
i havenet installed any new hardware. Only downloaded a bunch of Movies like 6 GB at once.. but deleted half of it now. ( more than half of my HDD is empty)
one problem i am suspicious at is if it is caused by my SPEAKERS since two days ago i changed my desk and placed one of the Speaker sattelites right beside the CPU like 4 inch from the HDD ---- if thats the cause what SHOULD I DO NOW. note:that my speakers are shielded. i dont think its because of this.

-one more thing: COULD it be because of changing the WINDOWS BOOT SCREEN using a windows XP theme style which i downloaded from internet.
the NEW Boot screen worked fine a few times, but right before my computter got messed up i changed some settings on the theme which corresponded to the boot screen ---->> i may have deleted an important system file or deleted it--- but why didnt it got fixed when i repaired windows system files using my WINDOWS CD.

___________ HOW CAN I a) FIX WINDOWS OR b) BACK UP MY FILES USING CD WRITER IN SAFE MODE ?????????????????

ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED

Here Is A More Organized Summary

lol what a messed up post..
here is an organized summary
Windows cant start -freezes at windows logo screen the very first where something scrolls across the screen under what it says windows XP HOME. but if i restart the computer i get 5 options and i CAN LOG IN TO SAFE MODE.

tried these:
- recovery console couldnt solve the problem
- Repairing the Windows installation didnt help either

Is it due to a system file being corrupt or due to hard drive going out???
the symptoms are :
1- READ EVERYTHING-- my computer was normal until.....THE LAST TIME i was downloading and browsing. i pressed something and it got very slow and i Shut it down using the switch on the case. Upon restart i found i was in this mess.

Possible causes:
-placing speakers too close to the CPU (ie, hard drive) (speakers are shielded)
-Changing an important system file because i had installed a windows program which allowed me to change the Boot screen Logo and picture to make it loook cool. It started since i messed up with that file
-OR due to hard drive failure (doubt it because why would i be able to log into safe mode then)
-I DONT KNOW

IMPORTANT QUESTION:
is it possible to use CD writer to copy my files to another computer in safe mode???? how???

THX

i recently fixed the same problem

a while ago i had the same issue where the scroll bar would freeze up during startup and prevent booting my computer.
then when i restated it windows would "apolagize for the inconvenience".
i used to get around this by using the xp cd to repair my damage EVERYTIME this happened. problem was, it happend regularly. so most of the timewhen i startup windows i would simply rely on luck that it wouldn't freezeup.

but later the problem got much worse so i took it into the computer store and they told me i had a faulty graphics card (Due to improper updating). it cost me $50 which was lower than what i's expected so that was good.

in summary, don't mess around with your computer. know that you've done all you can and take it in to the prefessionals.

cant get to safe mode

I have the same problem but I cant get into any of the safe mode options. I choose them and it just restarts again from the windows screen. How can I start windows? Is it possible to just access the files and copy them to my d drive?

did u read this : http://www.softwaretipsandtricks.co...ead.php?t=19298

I dont know if u can copy your files to another drive. But Did u use repair option from windows CD boot. also try a new windows installation in a separate folder using your windows CD. example C:/WindowsSecondcopy/ .. then press enter asked which windows to use . dont change the selection. After you saved you files to D drive. you can install windows all over again and delete everything else.

Holy smokes, I just spent like 9 hours trying to figure this out cause there seems to be sooooo many possible solutions/causes. Tried everything from fdisk /mbr to crying in a dark corner. In a last ditch desperation move I swapped out my IDE cable and it worked!!!! I would HIGHLY recommend trying a new IDE cable before doing all these other software adjustments.

Smile Mine was an easy fix

I had put another cd rom in a few days ago. Primary had 2 hard drives and secondary had 2 cd roms. Both the cd roms were set as slaves and this is what caused the conflict.Mine would boot normally sometimes but most of the time it would lockup at the first XP logo. Changed 1 cd rom to master and now all is fine. Hope this helps someone.

You should scan your machine for viruses ... it has to do with a virus infecting your registry!!! So make sure you do a full system scan... and if you find a virus make sure you do a 2nd scan...

Hope this helps!!!
