Hi Helen,

Right-click on the second box (on the row of 5 small boxes) at the bottom right of the window and check your pop up blocker settings.

Choose "Block all" or "Block Most" from the window that opens.

(I also use GOOGLE toolbar which includes a pop up blocker too)

What's the pop up window advertising?

Good Morning,
In addition to the advice Ant has given you, get the free Microsoft Anti-Spyware Program [from here: http://www.microsoft.com/athome/secu...e/default.mspx ].
After you download it and install, set it to automatically update plus sweep your system EVERYDAY for such trash. There are other good programs which can help but I prefer not to drown folks with recommendations.

You may have the Windows Messenger problem. Are all the pop-ups in grey boxes?
If so, you can fix the problem manually.
Follow the directions given by Microsoft.
