Unhappy Windows won't let Administrator manage Add-ons

Hiya,

I had Win Xp Sp1 Home Edition and recently upgraded to Sp2. Now I can't access my stumbleupon toolbar. I have used the "View" menu, "Toolbars" option, I have re-installed the stumble.exe program, and I am the administrator so I have "Administrative Privileges" actually I am the only user on this pc. I also have the "Enable third-party browser extensions" checked. In the "Manage Add-ons" menu StumbleUpon has been disabled and I can't enable it without admin priviliges but as I stated I am the admin, there are no other user accounts on my pc.

Can you please help, i'm desperate.

If you are experiencing difficulties with a certain piece of software, always seek the vendors advice first. It's more than likely a conflict with SP2: -

It's more than likely an issue with SP2.........

Ask StumbleUpon if their software is SP2 'compliant'. If not, there's your answer. The same applies to the 'other' add-ons, IMO....

It's down to the individual software supplier to ensure that their product/s is/are SP2 'compliant'.Try uninstalling SP2.

Incidentally, if you are using a quality Firewall and Anti-Virus, properly configured and up-to-date at all times, along with the usual arsenal of anti-spyware, anti-malware programs, practice safe surfing and cautious at what email attachments you open, etcetera, then you don't need SP2, IMO. Being behind a router is even better, but optional.

Yeah after searching the internet and Microsofts knowledge database i'm starting to think it is an SP2 issue after all, I was fine with SP1. I'm using Sygate personal firewall pro and AVG, my pc is always in tip-top condition security wise so maybe SP2 is more trouble than it's worth, as I didn't have any problems before.

Thanks anyway.

Ding, dang, doo, Ammie. I use AVG and Sygate as well. Probably the best out there, IMO, with the exception of Outpost Pro in the Firewall department.

Just uninstall SP2 then, man....

I have had problems with conflicting toolbars in IE (Google/Yahoo/DAP).

Have you installed any other toolbars since installing Stumbleupon?

By the way, what a great idea, get innocent websurfers to spend their time and money to surf the net and tell you what sites are good or not, while you sit back, wiggling your thumbs and collecting all the data other people are gathering on your behalf! (Which data, incidentally, is valuable.)

Now why didn't I think of that?

Who was that remark aimed at, Ant?

Ok....... I just find that some people, the OP excluded in this thread, naturally, want things handed to them on a plate. Not with me. The first step is always self help. I don't mind helping, however, if the OP can't be bothered to do things for themselves, them I'll be damned if I'm going to do it for them....

Ammie, look at Stumbleupon's website for an FAQ or question submission page for help.

I agree entirely Jazz, however, I'd like to think that most OPs are coming here not because they're too lazy to look for themselves but don't know where to look.

Joke: A submission here doesn't involve Uberrimae fidei...
