Exclamation Not a Valid Win32 Application

I have read through a few of the other posts about my problem, but with no luck, people are on about files that have been downloaded off the net, im not i am geting the "X is not a valid Win32 application" error message trying to open Notepad, Wordpad, Winrar and Loads and Loads of other Windows associated Files, In the past month i have installed windows about 20 times in hope that the problem would cease, but nothing i still get it all the time, can anyone help me sort this problem out becuase it is getting really annoying

I have just had a similar experience having upgraded my P.C. No windows applications (exe files) would run from CD giving the above error. On checking the bios I found that the secondary ide drive types were set to auto. I changed these to "none" as cd/dvd are attached this channel. This resolved the problem. This may / may not be related to your problem but hope it helps
