shortcut to desktop
In Windows 98 there was a small icon in the program bar to go straight to the desk top. I can't find a way to create one with XP, either in the program bar or the start menu. It's a real pain when you have many programs open. Anyone got a suggestion.
Thanks
Roddy.

Right-click the program > create copy > "send to" > "Desktop (create short-cut)".
Different programs can add commands to the right-click menu that are unique to that program. Not all programs will have the same right-click commands. If you want to customize the menu here are some tips:

This allready exists in xp if you turn on "show quick launch" in taskbar properties.

Sorry, I misunderstood the question. I thought Roddy was asking how to put a program icon on the desktop.

Instead of the Quick Launch Bar, I prefer the Desktop toolbar. Right click on the taskbar & select toolbars. Choose desktop. Put your cursor at the left edge of the toolbar & drag it to the right, towards the clock, so as not to hog all of the taskbar. Then just click on the double arrows beside the word desktop & it will show you a list of all of your desktop icons.

I prefer this method also (it's one pop-up that's useful). I have Quick Launch disabled (if you have alot of programs, it gets too cluttered).

You got me good, bmoore1129. I had forgotten that keyboard shortcut Windows Key + M would minimize all of my windows. I was startled when they all disappeared.
