can't open file attachments on Outlook Express

I've been sending word docs in file attachments, and I can't open them. My own attachments are being regarded as "corrupt" and I keep getting a warning. Also, if I receive an attachment of any kind from a trusted source, I can't open it. Isn't there some kind of box somewhere I can uncheck?

This is an Outlook Express 6.0 issue, but I wasn't sure where to post. I'm running Windows XP Home.

Click on menu, Tools -> Options and then the Security tab.

Uncheck the option "Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus."
