Windows Explorer suddenly closes on its' own

I am getting the following error window:

I click the "Close Message" button and any open directory explorer windows shut.

This is with XP SP2 ... windows is starting to suck more and more. How do I fix this guys? I've tried turning off "indexing" under "services" without affect. Please advise - thanks in advance!!

I've just tried your suggestion without success. The only effect was that it didn't prompt me to send a report to MS about their screw up ... which is in effect nice is some respects, but it doesn't solve the issue. It would be gratifing to me if I knew MS had to respond to all of the error reports generated. I know I can't be the only individual with this problem!
