Unhappy Windows Clock Gaining Time

Hi

Hope somebody can help.

I run Windows XP Pro with SP2 & I have an intemitent problem with my Windows System Tray clock gaining time. It is currently gaining 1-2 minutes per hour, & needs to be constantly re-synched manually. I have BT Broadband & PC is on pretty much constantly.

This problem has ocurred previously, a few months ago, & seemed to correct itself after about a week without my doing anything I was aware of to fix it!

I use AVG, Zone Alarm (free version) & have Spyware Balster, Adaware & Spybot - all used & updated regulalry.

This is really just an irritation, but would love to know if there is anything I can do to fix it, & even why it has started to happen.

Thanks in advance.

Joanne

Quick check would be to make sure your system bus is operating at the correct rate, also that the jumpers are set to the correct setting. I've known this to happen with overclocking sometimes and general setup if i've set the jumpers wrong for the chip

Hi Xanex

Thanks for your reply, but I'm afraid I'm not technical enough to figure out what it means (sorry!)

Does anybody else have any less technical suggestions please?

Ah sorry I shoulda explained a little more. Basically the Bus is the speed at which all the components in the machine can work at, its something on the CPU that is directly linked to the speed, Bus x Multiplyer = Speed.

Was just a thought since my friend had a amd cpu with a 333mhz bus, his bios reckoned that the bus should be 266,hz, so when he used his machine it went fast in certain places, esp his system clock which some run off the bios clock and if thats running fast due to incorecct bus then it messes up.

I wouldnt mess with it if you dont know what ur doing tho.

What about the BIOS battery? Maybe it's nearly empty and the internal clock is going wrong because of that.
