Unhappy HD LED blinking once every second

I have problem with the HD LED blinking once every second on both my old 98 box and a new XP box.The common thread is a liteon cdwritter which was transfered from the 98 box to the XP box. The drive reads and burns fine. When the cd burner is disconnectd the LED blinking stops on both systems. What gives? The drive is connected to the second IDE channel in both instances and the jumper is set to master.

I have tracked down the Flashing LED to the connection of
a Burner to an IDE channel. This has been verified by others.
The burners do in fact read and write.
Disable the Auto Insert Notification.
You......... know the old autoplay feature? Inserst disk and automatic action is taken. The OS polls the burner in an attempt to determine if a disk has been inserted periodically. Thought about this for a moment and.................we all claim that the HD LED blinks at a rate of one FPS. Really what the LED indicates is activity on an IDE channel, not HD activity exclusively. Have not had a chance to verify yet. Thought I would
pass this one along. Logic seems sound.
If you Run regedit and manuver to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE->SYSTEM->CurrentControlSet->Services->Cdrom and change AutoRun to 0 this will disable Auto Insert Notification. If it is not there add a new Binary Value called AutoRun and set it to 0 with a Base of Hexadecimal. I hope this is helpful for other people having this problem. Thanks again to all the input, thoughts, and ideas.
