Can I use Windows XP SP1 registration key with SP2 Install??

I have a virus loaded Windows XP Home SP1 with a valid registration key. What I want to do is install XP Home SP2 that my friend gave me and use my XP Home SP1 registration key... Does anyone know if this is possible or do I have to buy SP2 serial???

XP SP2 is free, one of windows updates. Just install it dosen't require a cd key.
