Accessing encrypted files

I had an XP Pro setup with 2 physical hard drives. One was a 4gig with the OS on it only (C drive). The other was a 15gig with 3 partitions (D, E, F) with my software and other stuff installed. I encrypted some files on the 15gig hard drive in the E and F partitions. Then the 4gig stopped booting, so I was unable to boot with the original OS. I then installed XP on the D partition of the 15gig and made the the 4gig a slave. I was then able to boot up and see the contents of the 4gig. I used the backup utility to make a backup of the 4gig drive. When I made the backup I forgot to select the System State Data box to backup at the same time (that will be important later). I formatted the 4gig to see if I could make it bootable again with no luck. I went through all of the info I could find about accessing the encrypted files by getting the certificates and keys from the original OS setup. After I realized I needed these files I used some recovery software (R-Studio) to recover all the data on the 4gig that I had just formatted, which I was able to do. So, now I have all the data from the original 4gig drive, plus the backup file I made before formatting it. I am pretty sure I have all the original files (certificates and keys) recovered, I just have been unable to restore them to their proper locations to gain me access to the encrypted files. I have gone through the help files about importing, exporting, taking ownership of the file, adding myself as the recovery agent (with no luck), and everthing else I could find. By the way, calling microsoft is not an option since my copy of XP is a copy. I am now hoping I can find someone who can help find out if I do have all the correct files, certificates, and keys available that are needed to access these files. Thank you in advance for your help. I am also willing to call someone on the phone to try and work this out, since I know this might sound confusing. Thanks again.

Ron.
