Unhappy real bad Network prob

ok I use the internet via a microwave dsl connex they do a cross over connext to network card so no hub
internet works fine

i added another network card to my machine and fitted one in the second comp and used a cross over cable to connect the two machines, the 2 comps saw each other fine and both could use the internet

now here comes the head ache

the two comps now refuse to see each other and the second comp cant access the net

I have tested all the cards directly to the internet the cards and cabling are fine
so its not a hard ware fault

both systems are running windows xp one is pro the other is home

i am at my wits end i know i am doing evrything right ( or so I believe am not a novice ) but this has me stumped plz help

oh and the ips are correct, but mine wont even see its self in the network

I take it you've reinstalled and tried the network wizard thingy again?

Firewall

Are you running any third party firewall or windows firewall as this will cause these problems, you say you have tested the cards, how if you can't even see yourself? can you ping one machine from the other through a command prompt? Start>Run>type "cmd" A dos window should appear type ping and then the other machine connected IP address.

well as I have used both cards to connect to the internet in both machine via cross over cables i would take it that the cards and cabling are working

yes i am using 3rd party software but have uninstalled it and disabled windows firewall.

the problem is not using the internet with either comp its making a network between them , they were working for about a day and a half then just stopped,

if you need more info plz ask i more than happy for someone to have this headache
