Can't open or access any files

Hello,

I have windows xp home and as of recently I can't open any files. I click on a file and it hangs for a while but nothing happens. Then I have to reboot because the computer freezes. I can't access any system applications such as control panels, my computer, search, any drives, etc.

I ran a full system virus scan and it said no virus found. I also ran microsofts spyware search and deleted a bunch of crap but this did not help.

i was able to get on to the internet using MSN but not Internet exploer. Now I think the internet is down too.

I was thinking of running an XP repair. Can anyone help??

I hope you don't have too many important file on it it seen to have gone beyond point of repair... If you can't execute any file then how can you run the repair tools ??? Unless you have Norton System works 2005 which you could boot from and have a GO at it...Good luck

Download updates for your Antivirus and get a good antispyware program (like ADAWARE SE) and get updates

Boot to safe mode and scan there.
Clear your MSCONFIG of uneeded items and weird looking ones (START >> RUN >> Type MSCONFIG, StartUp Tab)

then restart and when you get to Windows click Start >> Run >> Type sfc /scannow
