SP2 install and now Computer from HELL

Hello,

I am a newbie here and sure could use a lot of help...

I downloaded SP2 and I did everything they said I should do before downloading it. Download went well...Then after it restarted, everything went downhill.

I had a desktop with no Start Button, No system tray and no Task Manger...
( not a bad set up if you just plan on looking at the picture on the desktop)

I managed to get the Start Button up and The Task Manger Up, Once that was accomplished I was able to get the System Tray up too.

As I started to check out how evreything survived, I noticed that most of my programs are unoperable or only half work. Since I AM NOT COMPUTER SAVY, I am not sure I know how to explain everything in the correct way.

I went through the peograms I use most of the time. Here is what I found wrong.

1. Can not get into my Search Panel...After clicking it on, nothing happens...
2. I can not find Microsoft Sp2 in my Add/Remove Program
3. System Restore will not work..I get>>>"System Restore is not able to protect your computer...Please, restart your computer and then run system restore again"<<Did that, Still will not work...
4. I have no Sound... In the Sound and Audio devices Manager, everything is grayed out...
5. Windows Media Player message, says I am low on Memory but my task Manager says I have well over 312 mb...
6. Winamp message says, "Direct Sound output v2.2.11 error...Bad direct Sound drivers. Please install drivers or select another device in WinAmp config"... Did that, still can't get sound...
7. Can not get into my primary E-mails...

I could go on and on...

Here is my Problem...I want to remove SP2 but it is not showing up in my Add/Remove Box...System Restore will not work and I can not get in to Search for anything, cause nothing happens when I click it on....

What can I do to get this piece of S--- Crap out of my computer?

The only Good thing through all of this, is that FIREFOX and Gmail still work...Seems anything that has to do with Microsoft or 3rd party program that use Microsoft specs., is S--- to the wind...

Can ya all help me? PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!

PS: When I go To SERVICES, Nothing is showing up in the Extended Tab, only in the Standard Tab, if that means anything.

Do you think I may have had a corrupt SP2 download?

Thank You for any HELP you can offer me.

Best to ya all,
Oma

Try using System Restore in SAFE MODE...If that didn't help download the full version of SP 2 (about 260 mb) and install it...If that didn't helps you may be you better think about reinstalll...

Hello,

Thanks for the reply. I am not sure I can use System Restore in safe mode and actually I am not sure how to use safe mode and get out of safe mode. Do you mean re-install Sp2 over the one I just installed? You know I think I may have downloaded the Expres Version. Could that be one of my problems?

Here what's happening: when I click on Sytem Restore, It tells me to close off System Restore and restart windows...I did that and the same message came back up...There is no Microsoft SP2 showing up in my Add/Remove Program and I have no SEARCH capabilities on my computer, to find it. When I click on Search, nothing happens..Is there a way to re-install Search?

I did run >> C:windows\$NtServicePackUninstal$\spuninst\spunins t.exe and a box came up that says I can start the uninstall for SP2 but I am leary to do that, as my System Restore is not working propery now...

Have any ideas?

Thanks for your help.

i think u shud go ahead n uninstall xp sp2, mebbe it doesnt support all ur hardware so its givin ur trouble. it doesnt matter that u got the express version. u can also order the sp2 cd off the net, or u can download it again n try re-installing.

YES! I mean the FULL Version!!! To go in SAFE MODE push F8 exactly before windows loading starts! You will see menu and there choose SAFE MODE! You can run System restore even in SAFE MODE. If and there System Restore doesn't run reinstall SP2 over your current installation!!!

Thank You LeerMoon,

For making your directions more clear for me...

I probalbly did a "nono" here, by making a new post on my Failed Unstall of SP2...If it created any problems, I am Sorry.

I will try to get it (SP2) off the computer the right way and if that fails, I will re-install over the last install. I have the CD from Microsoft, but since my CD player doesn't work either...That maybe a fruitless effort...

Thanks for all your help...
