Hi,
I'm having a very strange problem for last week, when I try to save a picture from a website using IE, Using (Save Picture As) Option, it only saves file in .bmp (bitmap) format, even though if the pictures on website are in .jpg .png .gif format, how can i fix it? can anyone help? why i am unable to save pics in .jpg .png or .gif formats, thanks in advance
Maria.
My system specifications are:
WindowsXP pro (SP2)
MsOffice 2003 pro (SP1)
Pentium 3.0 GHZ HT
512 MB RAM
p.s this probelm only happened a week ago.

Delete the temporary Internet files. To do so, click Tools, click Internet Options, click the General tab, and then click the Delete Files button.

As you can see in the Microsoft Knowledge Base article, Internet Explorer does not save graphics files in the proper format, The Tool's advise is correct. The "saves as bmp only" is a known problem due to the browser's cache being full. It is usually fixed by emptying the browser's cache though Internet Explorer's Tools>Internet Options>General tab>Delete Files button.
If that doesn't work however, the Knowledge Base article also says, "Method 2 To work around the problem, click Tools, click Internet Options, click the Advanced tab, click to clear the 'Do not save encrypted pages to disk' check box, click View, and then click Refresh. The 'Do not save encrypted pages to disk' check box is under the Security section."

bitmaps to jpg trouble
A new computer and suddenly, after two weeks, only bitmaps were the option instead of jpgs - reaching this site, I took the adbice and deleted my temporary files and behold - I am back to a choce between jpgs and btms. THANKS EVERYONE FOR POSTINGS SUCH AS THESE AND SOLUTIONS. However, this can happen again. [b]What do I do to minimze or maximize the area for temp files or should I do anything to prevent this from filling up the file space if that is the problem? And why does the Internet Explorer restrict the picture oprions? UNless you are intenet wise, you just accept this new fate and restrict your options. Bitmaps are not a good option as they are not used by many - the space that they take is an unknown to me. But the panic of not being able to use JPGS is what really upset me as the help indes of Microsoft is written for aliens.

hi u can adjust the amount of space used for ur temporary internet files in IE y goin 2 tools>Internet Options>General. Under the Temperorary Internet Files Section, look for the settings button next to the Empty TIF button. U can adjust the size used by moving the pointer.
Hope it helps
Cheers
P.S. U Can also reach internet options, by right clickin the internet explorer icon on ur desktop and n choosing properties.

This happens sometimes to me as to everybody, but I've always accepted it as one of those Windows-things. It always comes right again after a while or the next day. I just save he bmp & later use any graphics tool to convert to jpg or whatever. In relation to the Temp files: my max is set to 32MB, but it regularly goes over that amount. Is there a tool (this should be built in really) to delete anything older than say 4 weeks?

Personally I have IE set to delete temp inet files when the browser closes.
You can find this setting in Tools>IE Options>Advanced>Security and it is the 8th check box down. This may not suit everybody but works for me.
