Computer turning on by itself

I usually turn my computer off at the end of the day, but when I return to it the next morning I find that it has turned itself on during the night. Any suggestions???

Not too sure what is causing it.. but a solution would be to also turn it off via the flick switch around the back after you've turned it off by shutting it down, instead of using just the standard Power button you see on the front of the machine...

Maybe it's a bios setting, wake on lan, wake on modem etc. However, that would require that the PC was in standby. Does the PC fully power down?
It's allways possible that a hardware fault is causing it, PSU, mainboard or even bios battery.

I have disabled "resume on ring/LAN" in the BIOS. There was on setting that said "PME wake-up". I was afraid to disable that because I didn't know what PME was.

Do you wait to see if it really shutsdown or is rebooting? Go to - Start - control panel - system - advanced - startup&recovery settings - uncheck auto restart. Good idea to uncheck it regardless.

It is a power supply problem. Your surge protector is probably causing it. Plug the computer into its own outlet and it should stop happening.
