Problem Displaying contents using File -> Open Alphabeticaly from Z to A

Problem:
When I view contents of a folder using My Computer, its in alphabeticaly orderd correctly everytime. But when I use a program (any program seems like it happens to all) the contents displayed are listed alphabeticaly backwards starting with Z and ending with A or numbers. It confuses me when I open projects to programs because I have to right click in the folder and set to name again to make it display like it normaly should. Is there an option somewhere in XP I can go to set this so that it doesn't display backwards.

Recap:
Viewing contents using My Computer = Alphabeticaly from A to Z
Viewing contents using File -> Open = Alphabeticaly from Z to A

1) Version of XP (Home Edition Version 2002 SP 2)

AMD 3200+ XP
Thermaltake Volcano 11
Aspire 520Watt PSU
CD R/RW Sony 52x/24x/52x
DVD ROM Generic

3) What exactly happened leading up to the problem
Not sure exactly
4) Exact error messages
No error messages
5) Any antivirus, firewall software you are running

Have you tried changing the view in the file--open window to 'Details' (the bottom option). The files will then appear in a single column instead of several columns, so it may give you what you want - A-Z instead of Z-A?

If i change it in My Computer view, it doesnt effect the way I see it when I use File -> Open in a program, any program. I could make it display by details for every folder on the drive, but that doesnt change how it looks when I browse through the File -> Open of a program.

Generally speaking, it's the application itself which will determine the way that files in open/save requesters are viewed.

Most open/save requesters within applications give you the option to view the file list as Thumbnails/List/Details etc., however, only some of them will remember the settings you have chosen e.g., Office (Word, Excel etc).

Look in the help files and/or preferences/options of the particular application you are using or ask the application's Technical Support people if the default view list type is customisable... (Is that a word?)

Try

While in that "OPEN FILE" window, select SORT by name then select it again to reverse the order until you get what you need.

Hope this helps, goodluck.

If i do this then the next time I choose to Browse when opening a file it goes back to displaying backwards.

As for the other solution. The programs that display them backwards (that I use mostly) are adobe photoshop, paint, explorer. They have a preference any where? Word seems to be working fine and displaying correctly.

I had the exact same problem.

If you open up a folder that you have the sort by name tab on. CTRL+Click on it, then keep ctrl held, and click X... should sort it out. Was pissing me off as well.
