Question Windows XP Home or XP Pro?

I am getting a new system this week! But I am not sure which operating system to get. I work from home so I am on the computer about 8-12 hours a day. It is not uncommon for me to have 2-3 browsers, the company extranet, 2-3 excel spreadsheets and maybe even a word file or 2 open at one time. I am operating a small network with a Linux server and another desktop running Windows 2000 (My old Machine). I would say that I am a very high level user. I have heard that there are not alot of changes from Home to Pro. But I need to know what the diffs are. I am running 2000 with 512 of ram because my old old machine was running 98 v1, and it just wasn't getting it. I am probably going to get 1024 of ram on this system with a 1.8 P4 or higher. Can anyone help?

Cool

Both have the same stable core kernel, xp home is great unless ur into server stuff.
I've had them both and wouldn't pay the differnece for Pro.

Crap, there's sooooo many pages out there showing the exact differences... try a google search for tons of pages.

Here's a good comparison chart. I guess if you need the extra features in pro it may be worth the extra money.

I have read all of the Microsoft stuff and am just wanting to make sure that there isn't something that they aren't leaving out. IF there is a major difference like from 98 to 200 I am going with Pro if it as Microsoft says then I will go with home.

Windows XP Home Edition.

This budget-priced version is typically bundled with consumer PCs sold for use in homes and very small businesses. It’s intended for nontechnical users who don’t need to connect to corporate networks and don’t want to fuss with complicated system and security options. It’s compatible with any desktop or notebook PC that has a single CPU and a single video display.

Windows XP Professional.

This version includes everything in the Home Edition, plus all the networking and security components required to join a Windows NT/2000/XP domain. If your system configuration includes certain types of high-performance hardware, such as a dual-processor motherboard, you’ll need Windows XP Professional to fully utilize it.
