system keeps rebooting @ windows start up screen

actually it doesn't really reach the boot screen where it shows the windows icon and the little scroll bar goes from left to right. i don't kno what my sister did to her computer but the system just rebooted by itself .. and it keeps trying to boot up .. but the computer itself keeps restarting & you get to the screen where it says "the last time windows tried to run it failed .. what do u want to do" .. then it gives u the options for safe mode .. last known good setting .. or regular .. i've tried all 3 .. and it fails to boot up & just keeps rebooting. what could be causing this? is there a new virus out there?

I had the exact same problem. Here's how I was able to resolve it with MicroSoft's help. Insert your XP installation disk and boot to it. Then do a "Repair Installation" of Windows. In my case, there were some corrupt files that caused the system to keep rebooting. This remedied the problem. Althouth Microsoft cautioned me that I may loose some data, particularly the "my documents" file, I did not. It worked perfectly. Hope this help you!

i can't get into safe mode .. last known config .. or regular mode.
i can't get into recovery console using the xp disc (legit)
i can't get into setup using the xp disc (legit) .. it reboots on "Starting up Windows Setup".
i can't use these damn floppy boot discs either .. "File \bootinfo.ini could not be loaded.
The error code is 4096."

Have you tried going in to your bios setup and switch your boot order so that you boot from cdrom first?

Any external devices connected (USB, Firewire etc.) turn off Legacy support and boot from LAN in BIOS too

Read this article on MS site:
http://support.microsoft.com/default...d=kb;en;326904

if you have one of these product ID (see below) and apply the SP2 or one of the new patches then your system will go into a loop, that's MS way of cleaning up

if you've got a floppy drive you could try the windows xp boot up floppies to gain access to the cdrom and do a repair install.
