Unhappy windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt windows/syst

ok guys i keep gttin message windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt windows/system32/config/system
wen i boot my comp and i have been told to get win xp installation disk and hit r at welcome screen yet i cant get it to run in my ms-dos mode....maybe its because i have to type something into ms-dos mode for it to read the cd yet i also have problem in i dunno wat drive my cd-rw is :S helppp :
