Wireless network with Home edition and professional

I've just got a new laptop that runs XP professional, while my desktop PC runs XP Home.

I want to network both together so I can share files, but it's refusing to co-operate at the moment.

Apparently getting Professional and home to run together is hard? I have tried using the wizard to set it up, but when I create the setup disk on the Home edition PC, the laptop won't accept it, and gives me the details in a text file, and when I run the wizard on the laptop and make the setup disk from there, it just says it can't be used when I run on the home edition PC.

Surely this can't be that hard to do? I already am using a share Internet connection, so it's not that the router or wifi stuff isn't working.

Any tips would be good - this is driving me mad.

Thanks,
Ed Ludlow

The setup disk is only needed when networking an NTFS operating system such as XP with a FAT32 operating system such as Windows 98. Running the setup disk on the FAT32 system allows FAT32 to "see" the NTFS system's files.

After running the Network Setup Wizard you need to mark files, folders or, if you prefer, the entire drive as "shared."

XP's Help and Support on the Start Menu has good information on how to do that as well as how to set up a home network such as yours.

Sorted it now...nearly. Turned out it was my firewall blocking the network should have thought to check that!

Now I can quite happilly access the laptop from the PC, but it's not letting me do it the other way around. In other words, I can't access the shared files on the PC from the laptop. There's no firewell on the laptop (yet)

Any ideas?

Ed
