Unhappy All My Icons and Taskbar Disappears

Before you yell, yes I did search for other threads pertaining to my particular problem. They offered no help or were too old.

I just bought a new computer with Windows XP. As I was loading my software it re-started several times. During one of the re-starts, all my desktop icons and the taskbar suddenly disappeared!!! I can access them through the Task Manager but there is nothing on the desktop for me to click on to enter my programs. I can't even right click to get to the desktop properties. Nor can I access the start menu unless I go into safe mode.

As you can guess, this poses a problem! Does anyone have a solution?

Please?

Hi ... See if this helps as well ...

1/ Boot to your desktop

2/ Press CTRL+ALT+DEL to open Task Manager

3/ In Task manager click the New Task button on the General tab

4/ In the New Task dialogue box type: 'explorer.exe' (without the quotes) and press OK

5/ The Windows desktop should now appear

Go to this Kelly's Korner page, scroll down to line 195 and click on "Restore Desktop Icons and Taskbar" in the right-hand column to download a small reg file.

Run the file according to the directions at the top of that page.

If that doesn't fix the problem (although it usually does), try Taskbar Repair Tool Plus!.

I am having the same problem. The taskbar doesn't totally dissappear but leaves for a few seconds then comes back only to leave again. The above suggestions made the taskbar come back for slightly longer than before but after a minute or so the problem goes back to how it was. Flicking on and off.

Sounds to me like windows explorer is crashing. Run a good malware trojan removal and a good full virus scan to start with.
Malwarebytes is free and gets rid of the bulk of the current nasty stuff.http://www.download.com/Malwarebytes...dlPid=10997763

AVG is a good free anti virus if you do not have one or unable to update the one you have, uninstall any antivirus software before installing a new one. Avast is also a good free A/V program if you would like a different option.

See if these remove anything and/or improver you problem. Post back results if the problem persist.

My taskbar disappeared completely. I googled everywhere and tried all sorts of esoteric things, like gpedit, during the course of which I might have set all kinds of configuration tweaks that'll cause me pain later - and none of which brought back the taskbar.

The Kellys-korner trick did it. A script written by Kelly Theriot and Doug Knox, a couple of unsung heroes of the computer world. Thanks guys.

If I only knew one thousandth of what they know I'd be happy.
