WinXP not starting! Help

Before start up, it displays
Cannot start Windows because file is corrupt:
'windows/system32/config/system'

I just need to get into windows to copy some files then I will reformat it. Can I install WinXP and still retain my files from 'My Document'????

Hello nbarao
You should be able to kill two birds with one stone here.
Follow the instructions Here and perform a repair install of XP. You shouldn't loose any files and you'll have the core operating system fully restored
