Fdisk/mbr???????????

Hi
I have a program that i have already installed on XP but it does not work. it states if the final install does not work i should "ZERO & Fdisk/mbr the drive and start over or "zero out the drive (Low level format)". My question is that what is Fdisk/mbr??? what does it do??? does it wipe my hard drive clean??? does it kill my computer??? if it doesn't can some one out there send me step by step instructions... thanks

Fdisk/mbr rewrites the master boot record. More information about it on in this Microsoft Knowledge Base article.

"Zero out the drive" means to use software that writes zeroes to the drive, which makes sure all data on it is overwritten by those zeroes. Zeroes to a computer is essentially the same as no data so to "zero out the drive" means wipe it clean of all data.

Fdisk /mbr does not apply to XP, fixmbr and fixboot are the XP commands.

Have you tried using the Program Compatibility Wizard in Accessories?
