Hey, Im trying to reinstall windows XP as my once fast copmuter has slowed down to the speed of a 486 since i got that WhenU adware / virus / whatever it is.
I currently have 4 HDDs connected, and they are using up all of my IDE space so i cannot plug in either of my CD Roms (i usually run CDs over the network and turn them into a nice ISO file so i can store them on my HDD). I have been toying with the idea of making my smallest hard drive (which is 40GB) into a bootable install drive, so i can specify in the BIOS to boot from that HDD first, and theoretically the XP install should appear.
The theory is quite good, especially with all the extra space for drivers and such, but what really happens is i specify the hard drive in the BIOS, and i get the good old message "The current disk is not bootable, please replace the system disk and press any key" or something to that effect.
Does anyone have an idea of how i can make the HDD bootable, it has all the files the windows XP CD has (that are visible in windows XP with all system files un-hidden) and a folder called 'Drivers' that should have no effect when booting up, i have looked at modifying the AUTORUN.INF, but there is nothing worth changing, the current contents should be fine
Code:
[AutoRun]
open=setup.exe
icon=setup.exe,0
Anyone know how to make this work (without saying use a CD, im aiming at speed here becuase this will make life easier at work too)?
btw: i also dont have a floppy drive on this PC, as the last one wore out
