What is the best antivirus software?
Hello people,
I just had to wipe out my machine and reformat my harddrive. Since I am starting fresh, can anyone tell me what the best antivirus and antspyware protection is out there that I should buy.
I don't want to have to go through this again if I don't have to.

Well
I use Norton Antivirus and Spysweeper
Also I use Adaware Pro on other PC's
They're great,
The trick to any spyware protection and antivirus protection is to keep them up to date as much as possible, possibly once a week AND to schedule scans at least once a week or MORE if you love online stuff...
Make sure you install them BEFORE getting online on your newly formatted PC and once you go online, the FIRST thing you do is to update them BEFORE anything else (not look for email or chat or anything)
Hope this helps, Goodluck.

Good question! Norton Corp. is really nice but you would need a server OS to run it. Well unless you had a hacked copy you would also pay a arm and a leg. Norton AV is going to be my chioce for you. You should be able to get it free after rebates if not, a very low cost.
If you are like me and think microsux should give you one for free check out Clamwin and AVG
Sties are here and here

This is what I use. Personally speaking, I don't think you can go wrong with them: -
Free Anti-Virus and Free Firewall
AVG Free Edition
Sygate Personal Firewall
Free Anti-Spyware, Anti-Malware, Anti-Adware, Etcetera
Spybot-S&D 1.3
Ensure that you install 1.3 first and then install the following directly over it: -
Spybot - Search and Destroy DSO Exploit Fix 1.3.1 TX
Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.3 Tutorial
Ad-Aware SE Personal Edition
Ad-Aware SE Personal Edition User Manual
Microsoft AntiSpyware Beta 1
CWShredder™
As an alternative to Internet Explorer, try the following free browser: -
Firefox
To protect against possible reinfection, download and use these: -
SpywareBlaster
SpywareGuard
NOTE: It is imperative that you disable System Restore prior to fixing any problems you encounter when you use the aforementioned products, otherwise you run the risk of being re-infected with the very things you are trying to eradicate. Reenable it again afterwards, manually creating a Restore Point, if you wish to.

"As an alternative to Internet Explorer, try the following free browser: -

Left out one
Opera
Well not 100% free. The non paid for version gets a VERY small banner of ad's but its smaller, faster and has alot more options. I do not want to start a war though. Just food for thought

LOL No worries, daemonOS. I tend to recommend the products I actually use, as opposed to recommending a product that I'm not familiar with. However, saying that, I've only ever heard good reviews regarding Opera..........

You should try it out. Opera 8 is no longer in bata and has voice enable on it. Not that I use it but its kinda cool to have a browser that can talk to you. Its nice to sit in your bed and have a online book read to you... j/k.. I was trying to think of a use for it. I guess if you can't read it might have its use. Well then again how could you read the instructions to use it.

Bearing in mind that your blatantly advocating the use of P2P, it's no wonder you had 10 viruses.
P2P is nothing more and nothing less than a virii propagation magnet.
That kind of 'advice' is frowned upon and not tolorated on this, and other, quality forums, billgates. If you wish to discuss P2P, do so on another forum, please, not on this one.
Regarding Norton Anti-Virus, that is moot, as AVG's reputation speaks for itself and is far less of a resource hog, IMO.
