CD-RW Drive Disappeared...

Hi,

I am not a computer genius here so please bear with me.

I own a windows xp home edition PC and have had it for 4 years or so.

I never got something as strage to happen as the second drive, (F: ) disappearing. When I click on "My Computer", I see 3 1/2 Floppy (A: ), Local Disk (C: ), Local Disk (D: ), and DVD Drive (E: ). Next to the DVD drive was the CD-RW drive, but it's not there anymore.

When I try to open the drive by clicking the eject disc button... nothing happens... when I try the same thing for the DVD drive it opens.

I restarted the computer already and am probably going to try to a couple more times and see if something happens.

Any help will be appriciated.

Thanks in advance.

- Ardit

Driver reload

To reload the CD-ROM/DVD-ROM/CD-R/W Drivers:

1 Please Right Click on the My Computer icons and choose Properties.
2 Click on the Tab marked Hardware
3 Click on the Device Manager Button
4 Click on the + next to CD/DVD DRIVES
5 The + sign will become a - sign and you may have a list of multiple drivers that drop down below. If so, each driver will need to be removed one at a time. To remove a driver simply point the mouse to the driver, right click the mouse one time, and choose 'Uninstall.'
6 Continue to remove these drivers until there is no longer a heading for CD/DVD DRIVES.
7 Then look for IDE/ATA/ATAPI controllers and repeat the same steps to remove all of them as you did for the CD/DVD drives. Note: When asked to restart, dont until all are uninstalled
8 The heading IDE/ATA/ATAPI controller will not disappear and all the controllers may not disappear after being uninstalled
9 Click on the X in the upper-right hand corner of the DEVICE MANAGER window.
10 Restart the system, and let Windows reload the correct drivers.

Goodluck

Switch off.

Open the case and check the power lead and strip cable connections (by unplugging and plugging them in again.

If you still can't see this drive in Device Manager, it may be dead
