Text Being Gobbled Up

After a while, typing text across different apps I find that I can't correct/insert new text; that the cursor just "eats" the text, forcing me to re-write whatever I'm typing from that point on. Please help. Thanks

On your keyboard is a key labelled 'INSERT'. It's a 'toggle' key which means you press it to turn 'insert' on, and press again to turn 'insert' off. When it's on, anything you type REPLACES any existing text from that point on. I guess you may be pressing it without realising.
