Over dark monitor?

Hi! This is a fun one - HP system, using HP CRT Monitor. The monitor screen, for some reason, is very dark, and no amount of adjusting contrast, brilliance or any other setting (even through screen properties or control panel) seems to rectify it. We did manage to locate some online stuff a while back that checked and showed us how to correct the monitor fault, but cannot find that now.

Anyone any clues as to how to adjust the screen so it cna actually be viewed please??

If you've also tried the monitor's own controls...which are generally either a disk or a series of buttons on the font of the monitor to get the onscreen menu of adjustments you can make...and the brightness still can't be adjusted satisfactorily, then the bad news is the monitor is probably on it's way out and will have to be replaced.
