Exclamation Windows XP keeps restarting and other problems

Hi all,

Im new to the forums and i really need some help if someone can please provide it.

My PC is a Athlon XP 2600, 512MB DDR RAM, sorry cant remember the specs of graphics card and other details.

My PC has been fine for ages and I havnt installed any new hardware or software lately until one morning about 2 weeks ago. I am a university student studying computer games design and need my PC everyday. Iv been bogged down in work so thats why this problem hasnt had time invested in it to try and solve it till now.

Sometimes my PC would freeze and the only way to get it to respond was to hit the reset button and every thing was fine so i thought little of it. Until one day it started saying that the file hal.dll was missing and i used the windows recovery console to try and fix the problem according to instructions on the internet. However this didnt work so i reinstalled windows and within 24 hours it happened again but this time windows didnt fully reinstall before it crashed again. upon restarting it was missing another file and so i called it quits for a week or so.

when i finally came round to trying to reinstall windows again it worked for about 8hours and froze again. this time when restarting it would get to the point of loading windows files and just as the desktop should appear it restarts and keeps doing so until i hold down the power button.

I have pressed F8 during startup to try starting in safe mode and none of the options there work.

I am getting very annoyed with reinstalling windows and so i would like a solution to fix it once and for all. My suspision is needing a new hard drive but some person with a similar problem on another problem says this didnt work for him.

I would appreciate any help anyone could offer me.

Thanks in advance,
Davz

Did you reformat your hard drive ( C: Partition ) before reinstalling windows?

Look here too:
